The Fiji Bus Operators Association is calling on operators to cease bus services today and tomorrow due to the current weather situation.

Association President Nisar Ali says the association can only plead with other bus operators, but it is ultimately up to owners and operators to do the right thing as lives will be at stake.

He says if buses stop operating, it will also help reduce public movement.

Ali says with Tropical Cyclone Vaianu tracking slowly between Fiji and Vanuatu, they are expecting strong winds and heavy rain again tomorrow.

He says with schools closed and civil servants working from home, it is ideal for bus services to cease operations today and tomorrow.

We have contacted Police and the National Disaster Risk Management Office. They are yet to respond.
