Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College dominating Secondary Schools Hockey Tournament

Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College from Nadi is looking good after day 1 of the SportsWorld Secondary Schools Hockey Tournament at Nasau Park, Levuka.

Their under 16 boys team thrashed Marist Brothers High School 4-0 while St Johns College beat Levuka Public School 1-0.

In the Under 16 girls, SSKMC kept Jasper Williams High School scoreless and beat them 2-0 while St Johns College Cawaci edged St Thomas High School 1-0.

In the Under 19 girls, SSKMC held off St Johns 3-0, Tilak High School beat St Thomas 1-0, Levuka Public drew with Jasper 3-3 and St Johns also drew with Jasper 1-1 in their second game.

In the Under 19 boys, SSKMC demolished St Johns College 5-0, St Thomas and Marist drew 0-0 and Levuka Public held off Tilak 3-0.

Fiji Secondary Schools Hockey Association President Immanuel Prasad says the competition is in two grades for the Under 16 boys and girls and the Under 19 boys and girls.

The schools taking part are St Thomas High School, Tilak High School, Jasper Williams High School, Levuka Public Secondary School, St Johns College, Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College and Marist Brothers High School.

Prasad says there are trophies up for grabs with the Bhasin Cup for the under 19 Boys, Westmere Cup for the under 19 Girls while the under 16 boys are competing for the Noal Gibson Cup and the girls have the Melaia Sandy’s Cup.

He says there are multiple tournaments happening at the same time as there is also the Inter-district Tournament with the John May Cup for the Boys and Sophia Raddock Cup for the Girls.

Prasad says the Fiji Secondary Schools Hockey Association and Fiji Hockey Federation are also scouting for students to represent Fiji in the Under 13 and 15 grades in an Australian tour next year, World Youth Games, Oceania Games and also to be included in the Fiji Hockey Federation Development Teams.
