Saneem clarifies issue surrounding the withdrawal of nomination for Unity Fiji proposed candidate, Mick Beddoes

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has today clarified the issue surrounding the withdrawal of nomination for Unity Fiji proposed candidate, Mick Beddoes.

Saneem says when Unity Fiji submitted their nominations yesterday, it had a declaration from Beddoes which was scanned, there was a scanned signature but somehow the solicitor witnessed it in Suva whilst Beddoes was in Nadi.

Saneem says it was dated yesterday.

He adds they questioned the party as to why the document produced was scanned and why did he not sign before the counsel.

Saneem says during that period the party gave three different versions of that document’s status.

Saneem says the party eventually withdrew the nomination to bring the original but they did not and that is where they will rest the matter.

Saneem also clarified that under the current system there is no such thing as individual candidate nomination unless there is an independent candidate.

He says they cannot accept a document that has been scanned and unlawfully witnessed.

The SOE has also questioned the state of readiness of political parties.
