A 37-year-old Sabeto man who was charged with the unlawful possession of more than 1.4 kilograms of methamphetamine and allegedly bribing a police officer, has been remanded in custody.

The man appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.

It is alleged that the man was found with methamphetamine during a raid at his home in Barara Settlement, Sabeto, on the 15th of this month.

Police say another search conducted inside the man’s home led to the discovery of a parcel containing methamphetamine.

He is also charged with allegedly bribing the arresting officer with $3,000 to throw away the seized substances.

The man has been remanded until the 28th of this month, and the case has been transferred to the High Court.

Meanwhile, three men were arrested following two separate raids in Natabua in the last 24 hours.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu says the first raid resulted in the arrest of two men aged 22 and 33 years, following the discovery of white crystals believed to be methamphetamine and dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

The second raid resulted in the arrest of a 44-year-old man following the discovery white crystals believed to be methamphetamine and cash amounting to $2,000 believed to be from proceeds of crime.

ACP Driu adds that a 30-year-old man from Tavua was brought in for a case of theft facing additional questioning in relation to the unlawful possession of illicit drugs, following the discovery of white substances believed to be methamphetamine.

He says a woman in Sabeto was arrested following a joint raid with the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and Western Division Narcotics, following the discovery of white crystals believed to be methamphetamine at her Sabeto home.

ACP Driu says all seized substances have been sent for analysis as investigations continue.
