SODELPA sets requirement for a focal person to deal with submissions to the Govt regarding appointments

SODELPA has today stated that it is taking a proactive stance in enhancing communication and collaboration within its organisational structure, and the party is instituting a requirement for a focal person to be designated for submissions to the government regarding appointments.

SODELPA General Secretary, Viliame Takayawa says this focal person, as determined by the authorised party officers, will act as a liaison to streamline the process and ensure that the party's submissions are consistent and coherent.

SODELPA says it has always prioritised a fair and inclusive approach to party operations, and this initiative reaffirms its dedication to these principles.

The party says the Management Board recognises the significance of the Head of Mission role and the responsibility it carries in representing the party's values and interests.

In this new process, SODELPA's appointed Head of Mission candidates were interviewed earlier this week.

The party believes that this transparent and structured approach will ensure that the chosen candidate is best suited to fulfill the duties and expectations associated with the role.

This step is aimed at upholding the party's commitment to efficiency, professionalism, and responsible governance.

SODELPA says it also remains committed to its members, supporters, and the public at large.

It says these initiatives underscore the party's dedication to fostering an atmosphere of accountability, fairness, and clear communication.

Deputy Prime Minister and SODELPA Leader, Viliame Gavoka has also stressed that the official SODELPA position is that they will support the Deputy Prime Minister, the SODELPA Ministers and the Coalition Government.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Gavoka says this official SODELPA position was clearly articulated in their recent Youth AGM.

Gavoka has made this clear following a Fiji Sun report today saying that Gavoka is expected to deliver a letter to the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, highlighting their grievances to be honoured.

The report claims SODELPA will give an ultimatum to the Prime Minister to respond within 7 days, and the party will choose to go with the FijiFirst Party if it is not satisfied.

The grievances include the party’s diplomatic mission postings to the United Kingdom, Washington DC and the Roving Ambassador to the Pacific yet to be finalised and SODELPA to have a nominee to the Electoral Commission, Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission and the Public Service Commission.

SODELPA sources have told fijivillage News that the resolution to support the current coalition stands and they have committed to it.

However they say in their management board meeting, issues were raised on why there have been delays and why their agreement was still not being honoured on the agreed diplomatic posts and nominees to the commissions. The sources say there was a suggestion made during the discussion for Gavoka to give Rabuka an ultimatum of 7 days or the party will defect to the FijiFirst Party. However they say this was not the final resolution after the meeting.

They say this is now being misinterpreted as the final decision and a threat.

The sources also dismiss rumours being circulated that there will be a change of government during the parliament sitting starting on the 11th of this month.
