SODELPA Leader, Viliame Gavoka

SODELPA Leader, Viliame Gavoka says as they enter 2021 and a step closer to the 2022 general elections, he is urging their members and supporters to give the new executive leadership time to sort matters out and remain steadfast and engage fully in the process to help SODELPA and the opposition partners get over the line and form the new government in 2022.

Gavoka says there have been much discussions and disappointments over the events that took place this year.

He says they were suspended from Parliament, internal disputes occurred within SODELPA, a change of leadership which involved his election as Party Leader transpired and the subsequent resignation from Parliament and the Party by the former Party Leader and Leader of the Opposition, Sitiveni Rabuka.

In his New Years message, Gavoka says many of them were taken to the brink of endurance as is expected of human nature, when their hopes are tested, and they wonder whether things could get any worse.

He says often their detractors point to SODELPA as a divided party in conflict but the truth is, SODELPA is democratically structured.

Gavoka says competing individual and group interests is commonplace as it should be, and the Party Leadership is expected to deal with this and manage it as best as they can.

He says the Party respects every members right to freely express themselves and object when they do not agree, and this includes any members right to challenge for the Party leadership and if elected leaders decide to resign and leave, they respect their right to do so.

Gavoka is urging everyone to look out for each other in whatever small way they can, and consider their next-door neighbour and ensure they have something to eat and drink during this period.
