Rugby player who allegedly punched a referee during a match granted bail

The Naitasiri under-19 rugby player who allegedly punched a referee on Saturday during a match has been granted bail by the Nausori Magistrates Court.

19-year-old Keresi Maya was produced before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne this afternoon.

He is charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The court has ordered Maya not to reoffend while on bail and not to interfere with any of the witnesses.

He has also been ordered to surrender his travel documents.

The police prosecution did not object to bail.

The case has been adjourned to the 18th of September.

Meanwhile, Team Manager, Kausheel Prasad has confirmed Maya will not be suspended from the team and will be waiting on the Fiji Rugby Union's decision on the matter.
