Two government vessels left last night for the Lau Group to deliver relief supplies to six villages that were affected by the Tongan volcanic eruption last Saturday.

While farewelling the teams, Minister for Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu reminded the two teams that this is not a site visitation as they will be heading to Lau to assist their fellow Fijians.

He says they should be good examples to the villagers and make sure to always follow the COVID protocols.

Seruiratu says one team will travel on the MV Iloilovatu and the Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate and the Assistant Minister for Disaster Management Vijay Nath will lead the team.

He adds the other team will travel on the MV Veivueti and will be led by the Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete and Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs Selai Adimaitoga.

The MV Iloilovatu will visit the islands of Ono-I-Lau, Vatoa and Moce while the MV Veivueti will travel to Vanuabalavu, Moala and Lakeba.

The travelling teams include health personnel, government officials and military personnel. The teams will be visiting the Lau Group for the next six days, however Seruiratu has also revealed that it could surpass the six days if the need arises.
