Fiji-born Crusaders winger Sevu Reece is one try away from creating history and becoming the first Fijian to be the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific’s top try-scorer.

With 65 tries under his name, and tied with former Hurricanes’ halfback TJ Perenara, Reece will be looking to etch his name in the history book with two rounds remaining.

After scoring his 65th try last weekend against the Waratahs, the 28-year-old says this was probably something that he did not even know at the start of the season, and it was not something that he was chasing.

Reece says it was not until he got closer to 65 tries that people started hyping it up.

He says it is pretty special, being right up there with Perenara, and there was also Julian Savea, who is a legend of the game.

He adds he is just very humbled to be up there with those players.

Reece says he got to a point where he really wanted to score a try after he was not scoring anymore and was stuck at 64 tries.

This week, the Crusaders will be hosting the Highlanders in the Battle of the South Island, and Reece will hope to get his name on the scoring sheet again and create a piece of his own history.

The Crusaders will take on the Highlanders at 7.05pm this Friday at Orangetheory Stadium in Christchurch.

In other Super Rugby Pacific round 15 matches this week, the Reds will take on the Hurricanes at 9.35pm Friday, the Chiefs will host Moana Pasifika at 7.05pm Saturday, and the Force will take on the Waratahs at 9.35pm Saturday.
