Suliasi Vunivalu and Filipo Daugunu scored a try each to help the Queensland Reds side register their first win of the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman competition beating a 14-man Chiefs side 40-34 in Townsville last night.

They are the first Australian team to beat a New Zealand team in the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman this year.

The Reds showed some class in the first half and scored five tries including a penalty try which gave them a 33-3 lead at the break.

Chiefs fullback Damien McKenzie was shown a red card for a late tackle on Tate McDermott in the 22nd minute that allowed the Reds to put points on the scoreboard.

Pita Gus Sowakula scored a try for the Chiefs.

In other results, the Crusaders thrashed the Waratahs 54-23 and the Blues beat the Brumbies 38-10.

The Highlanders will face the Rebels at 5 this afternoon.
