People’s Alliance Leader and former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka

People’s Alliance Leader and former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says he believes the late Justice Jai Ram Reddy was one of the most illustrious descendants of the girmityas through his public service, legal career, political contributions to Fiji and his contributions to the world.

While speaking at the memorial at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka, Rabuka say it was politics that brought them together in search for true, complete and a happy nationhood.

He urged the people at the memorial to honour Reddy by serving Fiji with love.

Rabuka also formally apologised for an incident that happened because of one of his corporals at the Girmit Centre in 1987.

He told the people at the memorial that he was in Suva, when he got a call from the committee that was in-charge of looking after the Girmit Centre that military tents were erected in the compound.

Rabuka says it was very embarrassing for him as he did not know who ordered for the tents to be put up, but they removed it immediately.

He says he called the commanding officer from Lautoka to explain why they trespassed on the holy grounds.
