Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar says rate profiling has helped the Nasinu Town Council recover rates which were owed for many years.

Kumar says they have divided the ratepayers into four categories which makes it easier to decide if they want to take those cases to Small Claims Tribunal or to the Magistrates Court.

She says they have done both which is forcing people to pay rates.

There are currently 401 ratepayers in Nasinu who owe more than $5001 in rates, 948 owe rates between $1001 to $5000, while 2884 owe rates less than $500.

The Minister adds the Nasinu Town Council is also accepting any payment plan that the ratepayer wants to follow.
