A 50-year-old man has passed away following an accident in Lautoka at around 1am today.
Police say the man was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old man.
They say the suspect was driving along the Vuda Bridge when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
The car then landed in a nearby river.
Police say the driver managed to free himself from the car, however the victim was trapped inside.
His body was retrieved by divers and is now being kept at the Lautoka Hospital Mortuary.
The 20-year old driver is in custody at the Lautoka Police Station as investigations continue.
