The Raiwasa Taveuni Rugby club will not lodge a police report against the Police White players who assaulted their players during the quarter-finals of the Nawaka 7s on Saturday.

Mesake Varo and Watisoni Sevutia were red-carded for punching the Raiwasa Taveuni players while four others were shown yellow cards.

Raiwasa Taveuni Manager Seba Vulakoro says the player who was assaulted, Manueli Maisamoa has asked the club not to lodge a report against the police players.

Vulakoro says they are mindful that the players from Police White have families and they do not want to put a sole breadwinner of a family in a bad place during this time of crisis.

He says what happens on the field is left on the field and they don’t have a grudge against those players.

Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has suspended the Police White 7s team until further notice and has directed an internal investigation to be conducted.

Tudravu says they are allowing these officers to play under their community policing concept in reaching out to the youths. He adds he does not condone police officers wearing police jerseys to be involved in situations such as this.

Meanwhile, Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor says they are also reviewing the incident before making any decisions.
