Rabi hosted its first-ever High Court sitting, marking a landmark moment in the nation’s judicial history.
This inaugural sitting represents a major step toward bringing judicial services closer to communities that have traditionally been far from central court locations.
The Acting Justice Penijamini Lomaloma is presiding over the matters listed for hearing during this historic session.
This initiative reflects the Judiciary’s ongoing commitment to decentralising judicial services and ensuring that all Fijians—regardless of where they live—have fair and effective access to the country’s appellate and superior court systems.
By extending court sittings to remote and outer islands, the Judiciary aims to reduce barriers to justice, lessen travel burdens on litigants, and strengthen public confidence in the rule of law.
The Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, welcomed the commencement of the High Court sitting in Rabi, stating that this development reflects our steadfast commitment to reaching people where they are and ensuring that justice remains accessible to every Fijian community.
The Judiciary looks forward to continuing similar outreach initiatives as part of its broader mission to improve access to justice throughout Fiji.
The session is scheduled to take place from 24 November to 5 December 2025.
