RKS overcomes neighbours QVS 19-13 in tight Super Deans U16 final

It was a tight game between neighbours Queen Victoria School and Ratu Kadavulevu School in the Vodafone Super Deans U16 as RKS beat QVS 19-13.

QVS scored the first points of the game through a penalty kick at goal for a 3-0 lead before RKS replied with a converted try to take a 7-3 lead.

QVS later narrowed the gap to 7-6 with another penalty kick at goal.

RKS led 7-6 at halftime.

RKS was awarded a penalty try early in the second spell that extended their lead to 14-6 before QVS replied with a converted try under the post to close the gap to 14-13.

RKS extended their lead to 19-13 with a try in the 65th minute.

QVS tried to come back in the last minutes of the game but RKS held their ground in defence to win the game.

RKS coach Isaia Naqicatabua says they expected the game to be tough especially coming up against their neighbours QVS.

He says they prepared really well knowing the stiff competition they were gonna encounter in this final.

Naqicatabua says the message to the boys at halftime was clear and that was to empty their tank since it's the last game in the U16 grade.

RKS prop Sairusi Rokotuva was named the player of the final.

In other results today, Marist beat Suva Grammar 13-0 to claim the U14 title and also won the U15 title beating RKS 17-12.

In the Weet-Bix Raluve Competition, Sigatoka Methodist College defended their U16 title beating Naitasiri Secondary School 22-5.

The Super Deans U17 final between RKS and MGM High is underway.

In the other finals to be played later today, QVS will take on neighbors RKS in the U19 final while Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School will battle Dawasamu Secondary in the Raluve Competition U18 final.

The U18 final between QVS and Natabua High School is expected to kick off at 5.35pm.

Sigatoka Methodist outclasses Naitasiri Secondary 22-5 to defend Raluve U16 title

Sigatoka Methodist College showed sheer determination and courage to outclass Naitasiri Secondary School 22-5 in the Weet-Bix Raluve Competition U16 final to defend their title.

Naitasiri Secondary scored the first try for an early 5-0 lead before Sigatoka Methodist replied with two quick tries to snatch the lead.

Sigatoka Methodist was leading 10-5 at half time.

The defending champion scored two more tries in the second spell to seal the win for the Westerners.

Coach Timoci Momolevu says it is not easy to defend titles and they are glad that they have done the hard task today.

He says their game plan was to just spread the ball out wide and play open rugby.

Momolevu has dedicated the win to all Sigatoka Methodist teachers and parents for their support and the whole of the Nadroga/Navosa Province.

Laite Havulu of Sigatoka Methodist was named the best player of the match.

Meanwhile, in the Vodafone Super Deans finals that was played earlier today, Marist Brothers High School beat Suva Grammar School 14-0 to win the U14 title and also won the U15 title after beating Ratu Kadavulevu School 17-12.

RKS is currently playing Queen Victoria School in the under 16 final.

In other finals that will be played later today, RKS will take on MGM High School in the U17 final while RKS will battle QVS in the U19 final.

The U18 final between Natabua High School and QVS will kick off at 5.35pm.

In the Weet-Bix Raluve under 18 final, MGM will play Dawasamu Secondary School at 4.20pm.


Marist survives scare from RKS to claim U15 title 17-12

Marist Brothers High School shrugged off a late surge by Ratu Kadavulevu School in the second spell to win 17-12 and claim the Vodafone Super Deans U15 title.

Marist was on fire from the start of the game as they scored 3 tries to lead 17-0.

They were later reduced to 14-men at the stroke of halftime which RKS took advantage of and scored an unconverted try.

Marist led 17-5 at half time.

RKS was a more disciplined side in the second spell as they tightened up their defence to prevent Marist from scoring any points.

Laisiasa Vukiono scored a converted try for RKS in the second half but was not enough as Marist held on to win.

Marist's fullback, Ratu Aporosa Lalabalavu was got the best player award.

Marist's manager Tagici Wilisoni says she is proud of how the boys played today and they played their hearts out.

Wilisoni says the message to the boys at halftime was to deliver and even though they did not score a point in the second half, they held their ground.

In other results today, Marist beat Suva Grammar 13-0 to win the U14 title as well.

The under 16 Weet-Bix Raluve final between Naitasiri Secondary School and defending champions Sigatoka Methodist is underway.

In other finals today, Queen Victoria School takes on RKS in the under 16 final at 11.50am while Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School will play RKS in the under 17 final at 1.15pm.

QVS will take on RKS in the under 19 final at 2.50pm.

The under 18 final between QVS and Natabua High School will kick off at 5.35pm.

In Weet-Bix Raluve U18 final Dawasamu Secondary School will take on MGM High at 4.20pm.

Marist claims U14 Super Deans title after 13-0 win over Grammar

Marist Brothers High School has claimed the Vodafone Super Deans under 14 title after defeating rivals Suva Grammar School 13-0 in the final.

The game went into halftime with Marist holding a slight 5-0 lead.

Marist came back stronger in the second spell to score 8 more points to win.

Coach Jone Temo who was emotional after the match says after losing in the Southern Zone final, he told the boys they need to come back stronger and win the final.

Temo has thanked the supporters, fans and the old scholars for their never ending support.

Marist's fullback Kalaveti Drauna was named the best player of the final.

The under 15 final between Ratu Kadavulevu School and Marist is underway.

In other finals today, Queen Victoria School takes on RKS in the under 16 final while Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School will play RKS in the under 17 final.
