Playing their civic duty, the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces, through its Headquarters Joint Task Force, had deployed teams to assist the National Disaster Management Office with evacuation and subsequent recovery efforts once flood waters had receded.

The RFMF says the Headquarters Joint Task Force deployed a Task Force comprising thirty-seven personnel to the Forces Training Group in Nasinu under the call sign Central Division Assist.

They say the Task Force carried out a number of vital high-availability disaster recovery-related tasks, including road reconnaissance on access roads to villages and communities in the Provinces of Tailevu and Rewa, respectively.

They further say the reports from the road inspection teams provided government stakeholders and the Headquarters Joint Task Force with accurate and timely updates on the accessibility in these areas and potential effects on the local population.

The RFMF says once flood waters had receded, the Task Force personnel conducted a clean-up of the Wainibokasi and Nausori Health Centres, as well as Nausori Town, to allow these critical components of government infrastructure to function at full capacity and serve the people in their designated areas.

It says simultaneously to efforts directed at the central division, the Headquarters Joint Task Force also placed its Blackrock-based personnel on standby to cater for ongoing adverse weather events in the Western Division.

These personnel carried out road inspections and were postured to assist the local population if called upon to do so.

The RFMF says the Headquarters Joint Task Force on Friday, deployed three teams to Votualevu, Namaka, Nakavu Village, Namotomoto Village and Nadi Town to remove debris on the main roads and Villages due to flooding, allowing the local population to return to their normal daily routines with minimal fuss.
