Members of the Great Council of Chiefs are starting to arrive on the chiefly island of Bau to present their credentials ahead of the start of the GCC meeting tomorrow.

It has been confirmed that 13 provinces will be represented in the meeting, including Rotuma.

The Namosi Province has decided not to send their representatives to Bau as the Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, is currently behind bars. Their decision has been accepted by the iTaukei Affairs Ministry.

The Lau delegation arrived on Bau and it was an emotional moment for the Turaga na Vunivalu na Tui Kaba, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau.

The delegation was led by the Gone Vakatubu Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara of the chiefly Vuanirewa clan, accompanied by the Masi ni Vanua ko Lau or traditional leaders of the province of Lau.

It has been a while since the people of Lau last made such a visit to the island of Bau, not since the times of the late Tui Nayau and former Prime Minister and President of Fiji, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.

Ratu Epenisa shed tears of joy and thanked the people of Lau, and also pledged the support of the Vanua o Kubuna to Ratu Tevita.

Ratu Tevita is also expected to be installed soon as the next Tui Nayau and Sau ni Vanua ko Lau.

Other delegations that have arrived and presented their credentials are the provinces of Naitasiri, Rewa and Macuata.

The GCC meeting will be held tomorrow and Thursday on Bau Island.
