Positive lifestyle choices will always have a good impact on the health of individuals no matter at what age the positive change is adopted and is followed.

This was highlighted by the Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong while officiating the three-day Health Expo at Albert Park this morning.

Doctor Fong says the expo will provide a platform to enhance wellness and create awareness of preventive measures, healthy lifestyle choices and disease management.

He says Non-Communicable Disease is a social issue where people need to make better health choices for their well-being as the Ministry can only assist while people need to show care for themselves.

He says many children, adults and elderly are vulnerable to the risk factors contributing to NCDs, whether from unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, exposure to tobacco smoke or harmful use of alcohol and air pollution.

Dr. Fong says through community engagement they will promote solutions to curb these issues.

He further says the Health Ministry aims to do early diagnosis through the expo so that treatment is provided to the ones needed.

Dr. Fong adds that societal engagement is required when talking about NCDs particularly diabetes to ensure people are aware of the consequences that will affect their life. The expo provides screenings such as blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol checks and many others, and it also provides counselling.
