Fiji Police Psychologist Nicholas Fuata has personally assisted over 100 clients in overcoming suicidal ideation and attempts.

Following the Champions Indigenous Solutions to Suicide forum at the International Forum in South Korea, police say Fuata’s presentation underscored his strong belief that Fiji’s rich cultural and spiritual values provide the most appropriate psychological framework for addressing mental health issues in the country, including crime.

Police say he highlighted the consistent limitations he has observed in applying European models to Fiji’s unique local context.

They add that the forum is designed to empower young people to develop a healthy mindset, foster critical thinking, enhance self-control, and build effective interpersonal communication skills.
