Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho

132 kilograms of cocaine, worth AUD$33 million was destroyed at the Davuilevu Dignified Crematorium this morning.

While commissioning the destruction, Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said the residue will be collected to be tested again on the potential of it having positiveness and the process will be repeated until it is harmless.

Qiliho is also urging families and communities to be more vigilant in tackling drug related issues.

He says police cannot tackle the drug problem alone, they need assistance from community and their support in this battle.

Qiliho adds 30kg of heroin, another 100 kg of methamphetamine and cocaine are still with the police which is going through an appeals process in the courts for the approval of destruction.

He says 1 kilogram has been approved to be retained by the police to train the K9 unit.

He adds Australia is the most lucrative market in the region and the minimum price cocaine could be around AUD$95,000 per kilogram.

He confirms they will be chairing the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police meeting next month.
