The search for a 33-year-old man continues today after the body of the 7-year-old was found by the father yesterday afternoon.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Livai Driu says ten people were on a seven-foot-long boat that was operated by a 16-year-old when it allegedly submerged yesterday in the middle of the river due to its load.

ACP Driu says these passengers were travelling from the Wainasasa settlement in Naitasiri to Baulevu at 2pm.

He says people who were diving for freshwater mussels during that time came to their rescue and were able to assist seven people.

ACP Driu says officers from the Mobile Search and Rescue, Waterpol, and Nausori Police Station searched and discovered the four-year-old child’s body while the body of the 7-year-old was also discovered yesterday.

The search for the 33-year-old man from Waituri, Nausori is still underway.

Police say a total of 58 people have drowned this year compared to 51 during the same period last year.
