The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side lost 21-19 to the USA in their first match of the HSBC Perth 7s this afternoon.

Fiji had a great start, scoring their first try through Ilisapeci Delaiwau to lead 7-0.

The Americans responded a few minutes later from Nia Toliver and Ariana Ramsey to lead Fiji 14-7.

Rogosau Adimereani gave the Fijians hope as she scored a try to draw their points to a 14-all score at halftime.

Vika Nakacia opened the scoring for Fiji in the second half to put them again in the lead, however, a few minutes into the game, Lavena Cavuru was shown a yellow card for a shoulder charge.

Toliver scored her second try in the 13th minute of the game to put the Americans in a 21-19 lead.

In another result, Canada thrashed Great Britain 38-5.

The Fijiana will face Canada at 8.21 tonight in their second pool match.

They will meet Great Britain at 6.41pm tomorrow in their last pool match.

The Women’s cup quarter finals will kick off at 12.02am Sunday, the cup semi finals will start at 7.49pm Sunday and the cup final will kick off at 12.11am Monday.
