To ensure the dedication of past leaders and communities in the development of Fiji, the People’s Alliance will be re-introducing Ratu Sukuna Day and bring in Girmitiyan Day to be part of the country’s national holidays.

While speaking at the joint rally at Labasa Civic Centre, People’s Alliance Leader Sitiveni Rabuka says when they come into leadership, they will create a happy environment where people will serve with love.

He says people must acknowledge the dedication of the indentured labourers who came to work in the cane fields as they greatly contributed to the sugar industry in Fiji.

Rabuka says he will ask NFP to work with them in having the Girmitiyan Day to remember their contributions.

He further says they will re-introduce Ratu Sukuna Day, which this government removed.

Rabuka says it is important for Fijians to remember Ratu Sukuna’s great deeds, as a soldier, a statesman and a man of the people.
