Police receive few reports of Fijians sending money to scammers overseas

A few reports of a scam received by Police involving Fijians sending more than $2,000 to release packages which scammers say also contain thousands of Euros has prompted Police to ask Fijians to be careful of such scams.

Police say the scammers say they will send items such as electronic gadgets and designer clothes.

They say the scammers will try and strike up a conversation and will make up a story of how they are willing to assist you by sending goods by courier.

Police adds a follow up message will be sent with information stating the location of the package, and that a large amount of money is needed for its release.

People are also being urged not to click any links with a message that you have won something that may appear on either social media sites or through email.

The Fiji Police Cybercrime Unit says these links when opened will allow hackers to gain all your personal information.

They say the links will either be from a financial institution or a message stating you have won something.

They are urging people to be cautious, and if you know that you have not engaged in any dealings with any financial institution, organisation or entered a competition, do not click on the links that may be sent to you.
