Serious concerns are being raised as people are still breaching social gathering restrictions in place to drink kava and alcohol.

Police have arrested 59 people in the last 24 hours for breaching curfew orders and health restrictions.

Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says the Southern Division recorded 21 cases whereby 9 people were found in Valelevu for social gathering and loitering.

He says 4 people were found to be social gathering at the Raiwaqa PRB flats, while two students aged 17 and 18 years, as well as a 35-year-old woman, were all found loitering in the same area during curfew hours.

Tudravu further says a 16-year-old boy was arrested during curfew hours whilst returning from a canteen while a case of operating a canteen was also recorded in Makoi.

Two people were found to be social gathering and drinking liquor in Navutulevu in Serua while a 32-year-old man was found loitering along Marine Drive during curfew hours.

The Eastern Division recorded twenty-five cases.

Tudravu says 9 people were arrested for social gathering and drinking grog at Vunisei Village in Toga while 10 cases of breach of curfew orders were recorded in Naivilaca Village in Rewa.

He adds 5 people were found drinking homebrew at Visoto Village in Ovalau while a 42-year-old man was found not wearing a mask while travelling in a Public Service Vehicle.

12 cases were recorded in the Western Division including 3 men in their 30’s who were arrested for crossing the containment area from Lautoka into Nadi while seven people were arrested in Saunaka, Nadi for being intoxicated.

A 38-year-old taxi driver was arrested in Waiyavi, Lautoka for driving without a pass while a 24-year-old woman was found loitering along the Korotogo area in Sigatoka.
