People march in Suva City for human rights

Participants marched through Suva City in vibrant numbers to mark World Human Rights Day, carrying banners and placards advocating for justice, equality, and human rights.

People turned up in numbers to march through Suva City to make their voices heard against injustices and human rights violations in remembrance of World Human Rights Day.

They are carrying placards calling for the end of patriarchy and homophobia, rape, bullying in boarding schools, police brutality, ending rape and also for ending occupation among other things.

The march, organised by NGO Coalition on Human Rights started at the Suva Flea Market and will end at Constitution Avenue.

Although a condition for the permit prohibits banners or slogans regarding Palestine, Israel, Kanak, or West Papua during the gathering and procession, many are wearing t-shirts with a watermelon on them that are being used globally for pro-Palestine demonstrations.

The theme for this year is "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now.”

Members from DIVA for Equality, Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection, Social Empowerment and Education Program, Fiji Women's Rights Movement, Pacific Feminist SRHR Coalition, Pacific Network on Globalisation and Human Rights Commission Fiji are part of the march.
