Bristol Bears’ Director of Rugby Pat Lam has spoken highly of former Swire Shipping Fijian Drua utility back Kalaveti Ravouvou and is backing the 26-year-old to have a breakthrough season for the Bears in his second year at the club.

With the departure of French star Virimi Vakatawa and Piers O’Connor this summer, Lam believes Ravouvou is ready to step up and fill the void in the centres.

Ravouvou, who moved to the Bears from the Fijian Drua in 2023, only played a bit part in last season’s campaign as he struggled with the language barrier and learning Bristol’s game.

Lam says he is really pleased for Ravouvou.

He says they did not realise how bad his shoulder was going through last season, but they realised he was not quite right.

He adds that Ravouvou got the surgery done in the off-season and there has really been a lot of difference.

Lam says Ravouvou has put on 6kgs and he is faster, stronger and also knows the game plan.

Round 1 of the Premiership Rugby 2024-2025 season will kick off next Saturday with the Bristol Bears playing the Newcastle Falcons in their first match.
