For many Fijians living with chronic pain or conditions once treated only overseas, relief is now closer to home. Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH Hospitals) has introduced Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) — a breakthrough procedure that is already changing lives.

At PSH Hospitals, innovation and compassion go hand in hand. As the fastest-growing private hospital in the Pacific region, PSH Hospitals continues to redefine patient care this time through the introduction of Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), a minimally invasive procedure offering faster recovery and improved outcomes.

RFA uses targeted radiofrequency energy to gently heat and destroy abnormal tissue while protecting surrounding healthy areas. The results are remarkable: less pain, minimal bleeding, shorter hospital stays, and quicker healing.

For Chief Neurosurgeon Dr Alan Biribo, the technology opens new doors in pain management.

“RFA will widen treatment options and enhance success rates for pain control, especially for patients who need facet joint blocks,” he said. One patient, identified as A.P., shared how the treatment transformed her life.

“Finally, I am out of my pain. Sitting at work used to be unbearable. Having this treatment available in Fiji has given me a second chance,” she said gratefully. According to Vascular Surgeon Dr Sela Koya, such stories are becoming increasingly common.

“These patient experiences reflect the success of RFA in treating varicose veins without the need for extensive surgery,” Dr Koya explained. The technology’s reach goes beyond pain relief and vein treatment. PSH Hospitals general surgeon, Dr Timoci Qereqeretabua, said RFA is also being used for oncology cases targeting tumors in organs such as the liver, kidneys, lungs, and bones.

“Having the right skillset in RFA will improve many aspects of care, including treatment cost and patient outcomes,” he said. Behind each procedure is a dedicated team ensuring every patient receives personalized, ethical, and compassionate care. From thorough evaluation to transparent communication, PSH Hospitals doctors ensure patients and families are informed and confident at every step.

As PSH Hospitals continues to expand its expertise, the hospital remains committed to one mission that is to bring world-class healthcare within reach for Pacific families.
