PM touring Vatulele today and will be handing over the second phase of relief supplies

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is on his way to Vatulele today to see the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Harold and to hand over the second phase of relief supplies to the island.

Bainimarama is accompanied by the Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, Minister for Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu and the Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate onboard the RFNS Kacau.

Meanwhile the government has distributed food rations and non-food items including shelter kits and tarpaulins in the first phase of deployment in Vatulele where a total of 261 houses were either destroyed or partially damaged.

The National Disaster Management Office says the first phase was done on the 14th of April.

A total of 81 houses were destroyed and 180 houses were partially damaged in Vatulele during TC Harold.

The NDMO says 34 houses were destroyed in Ekubu village, 18 houses in Taunovo Village, 11 houses in Lomanikaya village, and 18 houses were destroyed in Bouwaqa Village.
