Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has received the 2020 Champion of the Earth Award which is the United Nations highest environmental honour.

While speaking at the UN 75th Anniversary Community Day at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, Bainimarama says on behalf of all climate-vulnerable people, he is honored to receive the award.

He says this is not a trophy for something they have already achieved, and must continue the fight for the net-zero, climate-resilient future that our children deserve.

The 2020 Champion of the Earth Award recognizes outstanding leaders from government, civil society and the private sector whose actions have a transformative impact on the environment.

Champions of the Earth inspire, defend, mobilise and act to tackle the greatest environmental challenges.
