With more than 12,000 Fijians losing their lives because of Non Communicable Diseases in the last 2 years, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is calling on people to end this cycle of sickness and early deaths for ourselves and our children.

Bainimarama says the number of deaths represent a crisis.

He says NCDs are no longer just a health issue and it is a whole of society issue.

Bainimarama says unhealthy food and too much sugar, lack of exercise, tobacco use, excessive alcohol and stress are killing thousands of Fijians before their time.

The Prime Minister was part of the Waka Sports Day in Wakanisila, Naitasiri last week in an effort to reduce the high rates of NCDs as well as spotlight crime prevention in the area.

He says there are several more walks like this being organised in the coming months across Fiji.

Bainimarama is inviting the private sector, faith-based organisations, civil society, youth groups and others to join and create opportunities of their own as well.
