The government can provide more jetties and moors in the Lau Group.

Owner of Goundar’s Shipping, George Goundar highlighted this during his submission to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources on the petition for the government to provide reliable, safe and affordable shipping services for the Lau Group.

Goundar also says some challenges faced by his company when operating in the Lau Group and other maritime islands is the lack of suitable jetties and lack of accessibility at low tides for the ships work boats to get to shore.

He also says long voyages results in passengers on the boats for long periods causing discomfort and inconvenience and providing services to the islands during off-peaks are very costly.

Goundar has requested that government review their contracts often to see challenges faced by shipping companies and ways the government can provide assistance to shipping companies as they are contracted by government.
