Over 30 young people from the Nadawa Community Youth Group have been actively engaged in a clean-up campaign aimed at revitalizing their neighborhood, now entering its third week.
The initiative reflects a determined effort by local youths to take pride in and improve their community.
Community youth leader Inoke Kaitani shared with fijivillage News that Nadawa has long been classified as a red zone, an area facing various social challenges.
Kaitani says getting the youths involved in positive activities is something they plan to continue every second week of the month, which highlights the group’s commitment to sustained change.
Since the campaign’s launch two weeks ago, he says the enthusiastic participation from young people has been greatly received by the community.
He says alongside cleaning up public spaces, the programme also includes training workshops designed to equip youths with valuable skills and support.
Kaitani also stressed the importance of community support and understanding for young people.
He adds that people should love the youths, show and guide them, because that is what they need right now.
He believes that we should not turn them away if we see someone struggling with drugs or other issues; instead, we should accept them and help them move forward as they just need a guiding hand.
He says the clean-up campaign is part of broader initiatives under the Ministry of Youths and Sports, aimed at empowering young people.
