Please show compassion and care towards vulnerable animals as the Greater Good Foundation has noticed a significant increase in dog poisoning recently.

Foundation Spokesperson Shaheez Khan says they have attended to over 200 cases of dog poisoning in the West since the beginning of this year however the actual figure could be way more.

Khan says nearly every day they attend to such cases, especially in the greater Lautoka area.

He says when their teams go out on the ground, dogs are usually found choking, vomiting, having violent seizures, bleeding, desperately looking for water while some are already dead.

Khan says watching a dog suffer and struggle so violently is very difficult.

He adds death by poisoning is something most people would never even wish upon their worst enemy yet poor animals as innocent and vulnerable as dogs are openly killed this way almost every day.

Khan says the way dogs are treated is a very poor reflection on the ethical standards of Fiji.

He says they want to see a reduction in the number of dogs roaming our streets and are working tirelessly to encourage sterilization to prevent the birth of more dogs.

Khan says birth control is the only way to reduce and manage a population.

He also says the organization has donors that are willing to help people pay for sterilization and even help pay for transportation for those that cannot afford it.
