541 single mothers and 504 people living with disabilities were among beneficiaries of FRIEND Fiji’s COVID-19 humanitarian response work.

According to the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development, 15,854 families received food rations in the last four months benefitting 67,000 people who needed assistance during this pandemic.

6,634 families in Nadi, 5,425 families in Lautoka and 3,663 in the Central Division received food rations. Families in Sigatoka, Ba and Tavua also received the assistance

It says more than 30,000 people had submitted applications within that period.

Meanwhile, FRIEND Fiji received 100,000 KN95 masks from Rotary Club of Suva.

The non governmental organisation has dispatched 5,000 each to Naitasiri, Tailevu, Navua and Kadavu as the COVID-19 battle rages in these areas. It says affected communities in Sigatoka, Rakiraki, Tavua, Ba and Nadi will receive their stocks later this week.
