Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya says Fiji's ultimate goal as with every other destination is to safely restore quarantine free travel.

He says our readiness target is for a December opening.

The Minister was responding to a question in parliament about the activities of Tourism Fiji during this period.

Koya adds there has been a phenomenal uptake of vaccination by all hotels.

The Minister told parliament they want the on the ground experience to be as seamless, as safe and as smooth as possible and still done in our traditional happy Fijian way.

He says discussions continue on the protocols and procedures to ensure the safe passage of tourists, managing of any cases and ensuring safe accredited travel of tourists across Fiji.

Koya adds this maybe a lull period where tourism has stopped but preparatory work including industry readiness and marketing has not ceased. He says Tourism Fiji had a budget reduction but it will realign and continue to lead Fiji's marketing strategy.
