Only Rugby 7s and Sailing have qualified from Fiji for the Olympics

Only two sports have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics on merit so far and they are Rugby 7s and Sailing.

Team Fiji Chef de Mission Sale Sorovaki says other sports that are hoping to qualify and will be going through qualifying rounds are weightlifting, boxing, archery, judo, table tennis, athletics and swimming.

He says the team has received expressions of interest in the sports of archery, athletics, boxing, judo, rugby 7s, sailing, swimming, table tennis and weightlifting.

Sorovaki says the team is expected to leave for Paris on the 11th or 12th of July.

Sorovaki further says, with the assistance of ONOC, Team Fiji will be attending pre-games training camp in Devon, France while Team Fiji Rugby Sevens Men's team will be attending their pre-games training camp in Pornic, France on 17 June before checking into the Olympic Games village on July 18th.

He says Team Fiji will be conducting its first medical checkup on the 2nd of March with the final medical being on the 15th of June.

Sorovaki says FASANOC medical commission will also be providing physios and a doctor at a date later to be confirmed.

He adds each athlete that will be participating at the Olympics will be paying a levy of $1000 but this amount may change when the team size is finalised.

Team Fiji has an extended squad of 70 athletes participating in 8 sports.
