Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong and Smart-Gen Australia local representative Bill Mar

The Health Ministry's fight against COVID-19 today receive a timely boost through the donation of one million dollars worth of sanitisers and dispensers from the Brisbane based Smart-Gen Australia Limited in association with the Australian charity group, Save Our Supplies.

Smart-Gen Australia local representative Bill Mar says the sanitisers and dispensers were secured some time ago but they faced the challenge of transporting the items to Fiji as the Melbourne wharf was closed off due to the pandemic.

He says Smart-Gen Australia owner, Rakesh Ram, a former Fiji resident and a former student of Marist Brothers High School, got into contact with the old scholars association who assisted the organisation in transporting the items to Fiji.

While receiving the items, the Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong says they are thankful to Ram and his organisation for always remembering the people of Fiji.

He says the sanitisers will be donated to all frontline workers while some will also be donated to maritime islands affected by the TC Cody and the volcanic eruption in Tonga.

Meanwhile, Shipping Services Fiji Limited has confirmed that they will be assisting the Health Ministry in the transportation of the sanitisers and dispensers around the country at no cost.
