Olympics Men’s basketball: USA defeats France 98-87 to claim gold

Serbia claims bronze after 93-83 win over Germany

The United States of America Men’s basketball side have defended their Olympic gold medal after defeating hosts France 98-87 in the gold medal final this morning.

USA’s point guard Stephen Curry put on a blistering performance again in the final scoring a total of 24 points which included eight three-pointers.

The US took out the first two quarters 20-15 and 29-26 to lead 49-41 at half time.

France came back and claimed the third quarter 25-23 but the US claimed the final quarter 26-21 to clinch the win.

The win marks the fifth consecutive time the United States have won gold in the men’s basketball and 17th overall.

Meanwhile Serbia defeated Germany 93-83 to win bronze.

The women’s bronze medal final between Belgium and Australia will start at 9.30 tonight while the gold medal final between host France and the USA will start at 1.30am tomorrow.
