North Korea has announced that it successfully launched its largest intercontinental ballistic missile in a test today.

BBC News reports this marks the first time the country has tested a banned intercontinental ballistic missile since 2017.

Intercontinental ballistic missiles are long-range missiles, capable of reaching the US.

North Korea is banned from testing them and has been heavily sanctioned for doing so before.
