A 33-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death in Waima, Naitasiri in May this year has been denied bail by Suva High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo.

Josevata Koroi is charged with one count of murder.

Koroi allegedly stabbed his wife 4 times with a kitchen knife following a heated argument.

He allegedly found text messages between his wife and another man on her phone.

While objecting to bail, DPP lawyer Sheenal Swastika said that given Koroi had allegedly stabbed the victim four times, it shows he is a violent person and is a danger to the public.

Koroi’s lawyer Isireli Romanu told the court that he does not deny the facts presented by the DPP lawyer however, they object to the charges of murder and will be arguing that this is a manslaughter case as the accused was allegedly provoked by the contents of his late wife’s phone.

The court was also informed that the victim and the man had 2 children aged 7 and 10.

The trial will begin on 22nd March next year.
