New GCC should promote civilisation and Christianity - Mataika

The GCC meeting will be held on Bau from the 24th to the 25th of May

If you want to bring back the Great Council of Chiefs, it should be founded by the decree in the Deed of Cession that was signed by the 14 provincial chiefs in October 1874.

This was highlighted by Josefa Mataika during the public consultation on the Review of the GCC held at St Michael Hall in Nadi.

He says we have to follow what is supposed to be followed as our forefathers signed the decree to promote civilisation and Christianity.

Mataika adds that promoting businesses is also a good thing, but with the behaviour of children nowadays, the new institution should first look at ways to change the children's behaviour.

He says they have witnessed students' behaviour after the zones and Coca-Cola Games, and it is not the behaviour students displayed in the past.

He pleads to the GCC Review Committee that the new set-up of the GCC should first look at how civilisation is affecting our children and how Christianity can assist in changing their behaviour.

Men and women from the villages of Nawaka, Navatulevu, Nawaka, Rukuruku, Vaturu and other members of the public attended the consultation to give their views on the review of the GCC.
