New FBC Chairman, Ajay Bhai Amrit

The new Chairperson of the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation Board Ajay Bhai Amrit has written to the FBC Management including CEO Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, asking them to provide a detailed overview of FBC and its operations to the Board.

While announcing the new Board of Directors today, Amrit says the Board requires full financial and capital expense reports and other details and documentations from 2008 to 2021.

FBC receives close to $11 million a year in taxpayers money for public service broadcasting for radio and television, and Amrit is asking where the money is being used.

Amrit says if Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka feels confidence in him to carry out the role, then he feels confidence.

He also stated that he will take a Directors Fee of $1 per year and the balance of the fees and sitting allowances to be donated to an approved charity of his choice.

Amrit says this is a personal decision and not meant to be a establishment of a precedent.

When asked if he has an issue with the FBC CEO, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Amrit says they have no preconceptions.
