Nauluvatu youths take initiative to clear fallen tree on Edinburgh Drive

A group of young residents from Nauluvatu Settlement in Suva took matters into their own hands this afternoon when a fallen tree blocked a section of Edinburgh Drive, causing traffic disruptions and potential safety hazards.

Ratu Peni Seru told fijivillage that instead of ignoring the obstruction or waiting for authorities to respond, they quickly organized themselves to clear the road of the fallen African tulip tree.

Seru says the tree, weakened by today’s heavy downpour, came crashing down, forcing vehicles to turn back or use alternative routes.

He says that upon seeing drivers struggle, they knew they had to act—first - directing traffic while others worked to chop down branches before clearing the tree from the road.

Their selfless act not only ensured the safety of road users but also reinforced the power of community spirit in times of need.
