The Natabua High School U18 started their Vodafone Super Deans Trophy campaign on a high note after defeating rivals Ratu Navula College 17-16 in round 1 of the Vodafone Western Zone rugby competition that was held at the Natabua High School grounds this afternoon.
Natabua held a slight 14-6 lead at the break.
Ratu Navula tried to make a strong comeback in the second half by scoring 10 points, but a 3-pointer from Natabua was enough to hold off the challenge from Ratu Navula.
In other matches that were played today in the Western Zone competition, in the U17 grade, Ba Provincial Freebird Institute edged Natabua 20-16 and Tilak High School defeated Saint Thomas High School 26-19.
In the U19 grade, Xavier College defeated Ba Methodist High School 10-6.
Meanwhile, the Vodafone Southern Zone Secondary Schools Rugby Union and Weet-Bix Raluve round 1 of matches that were supposed to kick off today were called off by match officials due to ground unavailability.
This was confirmed to fijivillage Sports by Southern Zone Schools Rugby President Rusiate Wadali.
Round 1 of pool games for the Southern zone were supposed to be held at the Suva Grammar School grounds, Gospel High School ground, Veiuto ground and Thompson Park 1.
