Nasilivata of MGM says her sacrifices have paid off after she smashes 32 year old track record

15-year old Sera Nasilivata of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School who smashed the 32-year old Junior Girls 100 metres record in style was overwhelmed with her achievement last night and says that all her sacrifices has paid off.

Nasilivata who hails from Lau and shares maternal links to Kadavu, says her preparation for the Coke Games was very tough but she is glad she made her supporters, teachers and her parents proud after clinching gold in the 100 metres.

She says she couldn't have done it without the sacrifice of her coach who did a lot to groom and train her and she owes this to her coach.

The former Holy Trinity Anglican student says she used to participate in sports in primary school so the training transition was easy coming into secondary school and she is used to the tough training.

Nasilivata was the queen of the tracks last night as she took the gold medal in the Junior Girls 100 metres final in and also broke the longest standing record on the track of Masilina Rakai from Ba Methodist High in 1993.

She ran a time of 12.30 seconds breaking the previous record of 12.34 seconds.

Juliana Qoro of Adi Cakobau School took the silver medal while Una Rusivakula of ACS got bronze.

Nasilivata says her focus now is on the 4x100 metres event today and the 200 metres tomorrow.

The 800 metres heats are currently underway, the 4x100 metres heats start at 12.30pm, the 400 metres finals start at 3pm, and the 4x100 metres finals start at 4.15pm.

The Intermediate Boys Javelin, Intermediate Girls Discus and Sub Junior Boys High Jump are also underway.
