Former Solicitor General and colleague Nainendra Nand

Prominent Suva lawyer Graham Leung says the death of former Solicitor General and colleague Nainendra Nand has taken a few days to sink in.

Nand who passed away aged 63 earlier this week was cremated yesterday in the presence of his family members, friends and colleagues including National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad, Reverend James Bhagwan and Doctor Rachel Devi.

Speaking at the funeral, Leung says they had spent an enjoyable evening a few days before Christmas over dinner with friends and Nand was in a happy mood.

Leung says he never thought it would be the last he was seeing his close friend.

He thanked Nand for his life long commitment to the country.

Nand was Fiji's Solicitor-General from 1997 to 2006.

He had previously worked in the Office of the Attorney-General since 1983.

Nand was dismissed from office on 7th December 2006 when he refused to work with the military administration after the December 5th 2006 military coup.

He was educated in the United Kingdom.

After receiving his LLB from the University of North London, he went on to complete an LLM from the University of London, and was admitted to the bar at Lincoln's Inn.

In his capacity as Solicitor-General, Nand was the Chief Executive Officer for the office of the Attorney-General, the Fiji Law Reform Commission, the Fiji Law Revision Commission, the Legal Aid Commission, and a total of nine boards and committees.

Nand later worked at the University of the South Pacific.
