People in Namuka-i-Lau in Lau are seeking the Government's assistance after 15 of their homes and farms suffered extensive damage from Tropical Cyclone Rae, leaving residents struggling to recover from the aftermath.

While speaking to fijivillage News this morning, Milika Marama from Namuka-i-Lau says strong winds and heavy rain ripped off the rooftops of a few houses in the village and flattened plantations.

Marama says many families are now sheltering with relatives, while farmers face food security concerns after crops were destroyed.

She says their farms are completely damaged and they urgently need help with food and shelter.

Marama adds that their village elders are assessing the damage and are calling for immediate relief, including food, clean water and building materials.

Meanwhile, TC Rae is moving out of Fiji waters and is about 80km South of Oni-i-Lau.

It is moving South at about 22km/hour, away from Fiji group.

A gale wind warning remains in force for Vatua, Ono-i-Lau, Moce, Komo, Namuka-i-Lau, Kabara, Fulaga and Ogea.

A strong wind warning remains for Yasawa, Northern and Central Lau Group and nearby small islands.

A heavy rain warning also remains for the whole of Fiji Group.
