Villagers of Namata Road in Tailevu will no longer have to cross flooded creeks and walk in swampy areas after the commissioning of their $3 million road network by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama today.

While speaking at the commissioning of the road, Bainimarama says the new road extension will make life easier and safer for the children who must use the road to walk to school.

He says farmers who need good roads to get their produce to the market and bring in the supplies and equipment they need will also benefit from this road.

Bainimarama says these projects are all connected because they each contribute to the modernisation of stronger and more resilient road infrastructure.

He says they listen to the people and try to provide what they need to make sure their communities thrive.

Bainimarama says they cannot deliver everything for all communities at once, but they make sure they hear every voice and understand the needs of every community.

A 72-year old retired school teacher, Unaisi Kaloutagitagi of Namata acknowledged the government for constructing a proper and safe road network for the future generation of Namata.

Kaloutagitagi says it was always a challenge because they would sometimes have to take shelter when it would flood and wait for the water to recede so they could then cross to the other side.

She says the day they can see the fruits of good labour, the new road will not only provide a safer access for their grandchildren but they can also herald in new opportunities for the development of their village.
